Designing for Safety

I was watching the NTSB meeting on last year’s Virgin Galactic (VG) accident this morning and ran across a great, all in one table that is useful for new and established unmanned aircraft developers. This table is from the FAA System Safety Handbook, Chapter 3. Shown below, it describes the safety order of precedence a developer needs to consider to mitigate risks in their products. The VG accident might have been averted had these principles been followed. So, if safety can fall through the cracks at companies like this, then it’s certainly possible in the exploding drone industry.
